Buying a New or Used Vehicle?
The Minefield of The Auto Industry
The Golden Rule: Don’t be in a hurry. If in doubt do nothing (never ignore your gut feelings or intuition) they are seldom if ever wrong. Your successful choice should be an informed choice.
Options : Used car or New car? How much do you want to spend? Is your preference petrol, diesel, electric or a combination?
So let’s start the ball rolling with Used Cars first.
You will probably be guided by your current vehicle in terms of manual or automatic and the features you either like or dislike. Most of us have either a passion or dislike for certain brands. But it is best to be “open minded”.
The physical size is important in terms of the size of your family or not.
The ease of driving and maneuverability.
Is most of your driving city or open road? What physical size is your garage assuming you have one?
Is reliability and economy top of your mind or is performance and styling more like it?
Buying from a licensed motor vehicle dealer may be a bit more expensive but you have more protection than buying privately. i.e. clear title, buyer’s protection under the Fair Trading Act and the Consumer Guarantees Act although these may apply in either case. Mechanical Warranties are also available through a Licensed Motor Vehicle Trader (LMVT). However one must be diligent in checking the premium costs and excess that may apply and always check the small print thoroughly.
Be sure to check if a vehicle has any finance owing on it. An unsuspecting and ill-informed purchaser may have their proud new purchase repossessed. A lot of heardach and problems can be saved by a simple call to Motor web on 0800843847. or contact them via www.motorweb.co.nz . Their basic information currently costs $14-05 Inc. This is also includes a V.I.R. (vehicle information report). Please contact us for any further more detailed information you may require.
Buying a New Car
Once again don’t forget the Golden Rule.
There is such a myriad of choices totally depending on you and/or your family’s circumstances. From small two door hatches, four doors, medium size hatches sedans or estates (SW), large sedans SUV’s or estates right through to Camper Vans.
Then there’s the simple option of manual or automatic transmission, two or four wheel drive. Country of origin has its own huge choices. Today you can choose from almost anywhere in the world.
Japan taught the Motoring World what the real meaning of acceptable finish and reliability is all about. Korea soon followed suit. Now China snapping at their heels. However, there is a large hard core group of owners who prefer and don’t often deviate from European products from the likes of France, Germany, Italy, Sweden, etc.
The issue of the mode of power is an ever changing one. From the traditional I.C.E. (internal combustion engines) which maybe petrol, diesel or CNG, the options now include:
BEV’s Battery only electric vehicles.
HEV’s > Petrol motor plus electric (Hybrid) Without external electricat charging option.
PHEV> Petrol motor plus electric (Hybrid) > Including external charging option.
Your New Vehicle choice can be a love/ hate choice often effected by your previous experiences or even an “A Grade neighbor”.
Whatever your choice of vehicles INSURANCE is a must in our opinion in this day and age. What company or policy is best for you? From basic third party only to full comprehensive cover where the premiums go up but so does the cover.
Please also be aware of putting your underage drivers you may allow on your personal policy.
More information and comparative costs and assistance can be obtained from us. Peace of mind for a very reasonable price.
